EFCC arrests Ugly Rex, two other Yahoo Boys

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office, have arrested three suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation. The suspects: Adugwe Rex Odinaka(aka Alhaji Ugly Rex), Igwe Prince Chukwuebuka (aka Trad Marley) and Ifeanyi Nicholas Chukwulenwa, were arrested in Omoku, Rivers State. Preliminary investigations showed that Chukwuebuka and Chukwulenwa were into romance and dating scams and had successfully defrauded three Americans in the process. Odinaka, on his part, engaged in “laundering of fraudulently obtained gift cards”, specifically iTunes and Amazon cards.  The suspects are operating in a syndicate. Other members of the syndicate are being tracked and funds fraudulently realized from the scam are also being tracked. The suspects would soon be charged to court.

INEC Uncovers New Methods Of Vote-buying

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday said it had discovered new methods to be used by some politicians to buy votes in the forthcoming general elections.  Speaking at an interactive session with traditional rulers in in Osun State, the INEC National Commissioner, Mr Festus Okoye, however warned that any politicians caught buying votes or engaging in acts that could have negative effects on the elections would be punished. Okoye, who was represented by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Segun Agbaje, said the commission had been informed that some people were inducing voters to release their PVCs or Voter Identification Numbers. He said the intention behind the moves was to either stop the owners of the cards from voting or to attempt using the VIN to hack into the commission’s website and preload card readers ahead of the elections. Lady Who Was Declared Missing Found Dead In A Mortuary

The search for a young lady who was declared missing for weeks – has taken a sad turn after her corpse was finally identified at the mortuary on Monday, January 14. Former Multimedia University student who went missing on December 30 in Kenya, was found at Nairobi city mortuary. Susan Njoki, 24, hailed from from Njoro, Nakuru County, Kenya. Ms Njoki’s family reported her disappearance at Ongata Rongai police station on January 8. She went missing for two days after returning to Nairobi where she worked for a public relations company. A relative told the Nation on Monday that Ms Njoki celebrated Christmas at the family home in Jordan estate before heading back to the city on December 27. “She called mother, Hellen Ngige, to tell her that she had arrived safely at her Ongata Rongai house,” the relative said. “That is is the last time we heard from Njoki.” The relative added that Ms Njoki’s phone went dead on December 30. A Nigerian man living in Queensland, Australia has been arrested and charged after allegedly posing as a United States soldier online and forming a romantic relationship with a 34-year-old woman who sent him $370,000 all in the name of love. Cosmos Emeh, 32, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, where it was revealed he had also been accused of trying to get the victim to send him a further $170,000 before officers swooped and arrested him at his Durack home on Thursday. Mr Emeh, who is in Australia on a student visa, allegedly received the money over the course of three months from the 34-year-old Brisbane woman, who later contacted police and sparked the investigation. A calf which was born with just one massive eye is now reportedly being worshipped as a god in #India. The deformed newborn, from the Bardhaman district of West Bengal, has one single large eye and no nose at all. The deformed animal was said to have been rejected by its mother – but then adopted by locals who are now caring for it. A bizarre video appears to show it gasping for breath. Court Nullifies Rivers APC Primaries, Restrains INEC From Recognising Cole, Abe As Candidates

A Federal High court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, has nullified the direct and indirect primaries conducted by the two factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The court, presided over by Justice Kolawole Omotosho, also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from presenting Tonye Cole and Magnus Abe as governorship candidates in the general elections. The judge said none of the primaries were conducted according to the law. He noted that the INEC did not do well by submitting names of candidates without consideration of previous court orders. One of the counsels to the APC factions however told journalists that the judgement will be appealed at the Supreme Court. Crisis erupted in the Rivers APC during the governorship primaries held in 2018 in the state.
